Major The Hon. Sir Lachlan MacLean of Duart-Bt. CVO. DL

Sir Lachlan Hector Charles Maclean of Duart and Morven, 12th Baronet, CVO, DL, (born 25 August 1942) is the 28th chief of Clan Maclean.

Lachlan Hector Charles Maclean was born on 25 August 1942, eldest son to Charles Lord Maclean and (Joan) Elizabeth Mann. He was educated at Eton. On 2 November 1966, he married Mary Helen Gordon (31 October 1943 - 30 December 2007), and the couple had several children. On the death of his father in 1990, he succeeded him as a Baronet of Nova Scotia and the Chief of the Name and Arms of Maclean. On 8 September 2010 he married Rosemary Matheson.

Charles Edward Bruce, Lord Bruce DL MA MSc FSA Scot

 Charles Bruce (Lord Bruce) is Convenor (elect) of the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs. He is heir to Andrew Bruce, 11th Earl of Elgin & 15th Earl of Kincardine KT, 37th Chief of the Name of Bruce. He is active in conserving Scottish heritage at home and overseas and connecting with Scottish cultural organisations in North America. He has served as Chairman of the Patrons of the National Galleries of Scotland, and as a trustee of the Historic Scotland Foundation. He was awarded the Paolozzi Medal by the National Galleries of Scotland for fundraising (2012) and he received the Wallace Award from the American Scottish Foundation (2022).

He chairs the Kolkata Scottish Heritage Trust which is conserving a Scottish Cemetery in India. He is a Member of the King’s Bodyguard for Scotland, the Royal Company of Archers; he serves as a Deputy Lieutenant for the Kingdom of Fife and as Hon. Major, 31 Combat Engineer Regiment (The Elgins), Canadian Forces. He is President, Dunfermline United Burns Club and an honorary Keeper, the Keepers of the Quaich.  He has acted as Chieftain of both the Fergus Highland Games and the Kincardine Highland Games. =

He was educated at Eton College, the University of St Andrews (MA Hons) and the University of Dundee (MSc).

Scots of Canada's mission is to advance Scottish Culture and Heritage in whatever form and however expressed. This bursary is to help expand and communicate the knowledge and understanding of any and all aspects of Scottish history, with particular focus on the experience of the Diaspora. Apply by January 10th to Student Financial Services with a completed Financial Need Assessment Form and statement that demonstrates academic focus in Scottish history. Selection will be based on financial need.

Full-time students registered in the Masters or Doctoral programs offered by the Department of History whose thesis, major research paper, or dissertation is focused on any dimension of Scottish history, in any period, and who have demonstrated financial need.

In 2024 recipient Robert Flewelling spoke about his research on the Scottish settlement of the Grande River area in Southern Ontario plus the interactions and relationships the Scottish settlers had with various groups in the Six Nations Confederacy.
